  1. Power Plants By: Tessa, Noah, and Robert

  2. Nuclear Causes • They create Radioactive waste for their energy • They transport radioactive waste which could potentially leak. • Nuclear power plants over heat and can have melt downs.

  3. Nuclear Consequences • Upsets the ecological balance of the region • Radiation can damage biological cells • Therefor initiate cancer • Can cause genetic diseases in progeny • Hiroshima • 400 extra cancer deaths among the 100,000 people in the follow-up group • Accidents • Chernobyl

  4. Nuclear Solutions • Just say no! • Greepeace • Germany • Better Technology • Filters • Air • Water • Waste

  5. Thermal Causes • They heat up or cool down body of water. • Water is used as coolant then returned to natural water at a higher temperature. • Also sometimes release freezing cold water to warm bodies of water.

  6. Thermal Consequences • Emissions from industrial stacks • environmental and health problems • deviation in the fair weather atmospheric electric parameters. • Large amount of SO, NO & SPM & RSPM which disperse over 25 Kms • Respiratory and related ailments • Blocks photosynthesis process • balance of minerals & micro and major nutrients in the plants soil strata • Structures & buildings get affected due to corrosive reactions.

  7. Thermal Solutions • Alternative Heating • Solar • No more Fossil Fuels • Unsustainable • Alternative development

  8. Hydro Causes • Reservoir releases huge amount of CO2 and Methane from the dams. • Can release more greenhouse gases than fossil fuels power plants. • This doesn’t allow plants to decompose and rot with oxygen.

  9. Hydro Consequences • Flooding • The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town • World's largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) • Flooded archaeological and cultural sites • Displaced some 1.3 million people • Significant ecological changes, including an increased risk of landslides • Damage to animals

  10. Hydro Solutions • Planning • Flooding • Animals • Fish ladder

  11. Disposing Nuclear waste • There is no real way to dispose nuclear waste. • Burying it deep underground where it wont be disturbed for years • Can be stored in steel lined concrete pool for cooling and storing.
