The huge background painting of San Francisco was first used in The Towering Inferno in 1974. • The famous “Space, the final frontier” monologue is heard for the first time since the TV series in this film. • Gene Roddenberry’s name appears on the black building directory listing Key Starfleet command in the beginning when Kirk and Spock are speaking in the hallway. • The different colored turtlenecks indicate what division they belong to. • Kirk and Khan never meet face to face in the film. • First Trek to feature the “red tunic” uniforms that would be used in every Original Series based film afterwards.
