E.Q: How do the governor and the agencies of the executive branch protect citizens of the state? • Governor has executive, legislative & judicial powers • Executive powers of governor allows him to appoint state officials and make sure laws are enforced • Legislative powers include discussing with the legislature, signing bills into law/veto or calling special sessions of the legislature • Judicial powers include being able to pardon persons convicted of crimes

Qualifications & terms of office for Georgia Governors • Must be at least 30 years old • Must be a citizen of the U.S for at least 15 years • Must be a resident of Georgia for at least 6 years • Governor is elected and may serve 2 consecutive 4 year terms if reelected • Has to wait 4 or more years after 2 terms to be reelected as governor again

Qualifications for lieutenant Governor Role of lieutenant Governor • By popular vote (elections/ GA citizens) • As long as they are elected (No term limits) • Same as governor (30 years old, & 6 year resident of state) • Presides over the senate and chooses persons to speak. In your chart include the department of education, human resources, public safety, transportation, economic development & natural resources and describe the functions of these state agencies.
