STEM High School Certification • New grant funded by the legislature • $5,000,000 available • Managed through the STEM Action Center • High schools and districts are eligible • Encouragement to link with ATCs • Request for Grant document has been issued • Included in meeting packet • Grant proposals due October 13, 2014

  5. New UCAP Grants • FY15 UCAP projects have been funded • Over 30 applications • 15 funded projects totaling $2M • Represents diverse array of projects spread throughout the state • Project list included in packet

  6. Economic Benefits of a Higher Education • Report from Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco • College degree yields $830K more over a lifetime compared to high school diploma • ROI of 15% per year

Economic Benefits of Higher Education • A Well Educated Workforce is Key to State Prosperity (Economic Analysis and Research Network) • States increase ability to grow and attract high-wage employers through education investment • High-wage states have a well-educated workforce • Expands economic opportunity for residents • Long-term benefit for state budgets

  8. Economic Impact of 66% Goal • $14.4 billion in wages added to the Utah economy over 30 years • $1.4 billion in tax revenue • Over 42,000 individuals will escape the cycle of intergenerational poverty • Reduction of SNAP/Food Stamp expenditures by $18 million
