  2. The Great Commission • Christ gave to his church the “Great Commission,” “Go into all the world and make disciples of every nation. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to do everything I have commanded.”Matthew 28:19

  3. How does the church fulfill our Lord’s mandate? • Corporate Worship with ministry of Word and Sacrament • Nurture within congregational life • Mercy ministry • Evangelism and Educational Outreach

  4. Christian Released Time Education • Is one way to help the church fulfill the “Great Commission.”

  5. What is Christian Released Time Education? • CRT is an introduction to the Bible and the Christian faith which is offered to public school students off campus during official school hours. Skilton House Ministries pairs local church congregations with neighborhood schools.

  6. Is CRT Legal? • Christian released time education is legal according to Pennsylvania state law. Under section 1546 of the “Public School Code” as amended by Act 175 in 1982, children who have parental or guardian permission, may be released from school for one hour of religious instruction per week for up to 36 weeks a year.

  7. How Do I Get Involved? • There are different ways you can become involved in Christian released time education. You could initiate the process of establishing a program in your church for a neighborhood school. You could volunteer to teach a class or assist in some other way, such as preparing and serving refreshments, or serving as a teaching assistant. Whatever part you desire to play in the implementation of a CRT, you can begin by contacting Skilton House Ministries.

How Do We Implement A CRT? • Establish interest in CRT in a local church • Contact Skilton House Ministries • Form a committee of interested church volunteers • Select CRT curriculum • Approach local school/district • Establish the time and place for CRT • Distribute permission slips • Begin classes • Keep attendance records and report these to school • Hold special classes for holidays • Hold a graduation ceremony at end of year • Conduct annual evaluation of CRT • Participate in teacher/volunteer training

What is Skilton House Ministries? • Skilton House Ministries is a multi-faceted parachurch organization that has grown out of the personal outreach of the late Dr. John Skilton, minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and professor of New Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. In addition to Christian released time education, Skilton House Ministries sponsors Operation Brotherhood, the Sowers Literature and Apologetics outreach, and has been involved in nursing home visitation and worship opportunities.
