  1. Extended Year Summer Enrichment Program The Planetarium at De Anza College District Short Courses

District Short Courses District-wide ProgramFee-based Self-Supporting Program (Fund 15) Short Courses provide special interest classes that are based on the specific needs and interests of our local community members. In 2003-2004 the Short Course Program served 8,156 students (unduplicated headcount) and 10,522 students (duplicated headcount.) .

District Short Courses Arts and Humanities,Business and Entrepreneurship, Communication, Online Classes, Computers, Cooking, Financial Planning, Health and Wellness, Languages, Personal Growth, Photography, Real Estate, Recreation and Fitness, Special Interests, Travel and Trips and many others Providing a wide variety of current classes: Courses for young students are also offered throughout the year: Horsemanship, SAT Preparation, Culinary Institute, Golf, Etiquette and many other courses.

Extended Year Program Youth Summer Enrichment Classes Extended Year is a partnership between De Anza College, the Cupertino Union School District, and the De Anza College Euphrat Museum of Art Provides a broad selection of fee-based enrichment classes at four to six Cupertino Union School District sites every summer for students entering first through tenth grades.

  5. Extended Year Program This program is designed to serve students who are performing at or above grade level in their studies. • Four week program • No grades or exams • More than 100 different class offerings Classes are offered at multiple school sites in the community.

Extended Year Program Students may choose from numerous courses: Computer Robotics, Advanced Writer’s Workshop, Mock Trials and Debate, Geology, Foreign languages, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Geometry & Algebra Applications, Science and Creativity, Fun with Physics, Poetry Hot Pot, Essay and Summary Writing, Public Speaking, etc. Accelerated classes for gifted students are offered in the areas of math, science and language arts.

  7. Extended Year Program This past year we served 4,461(duplicated headcount, Summer 2004) and1887(unduplicated headcount, Summer 2004) students from all over the world.

  8. Extended Year Program This unique offering has been the recipient of many accolades during the past decade, including our most recent award from theNational Council for Continuing Education & Training; “2002 Exemplary Program Award ~ Community Services”

The Planetarium atDe Anza College • Completed in 1970 with a star projector from the Minolta Corporation, and known worldwide as the Minolta Planetarium • Hosted the first International Planetarium Society meeting held at any planetarium in 1972 • Largest planetarium on a college campus west of the Rockies

  10. It is responsible for 10 percent of astronomy student contact or class hours in community colleges in California. College Astronomy Classes With a 50-foot dome, one star projector, two video projectors and 50 slide projectors, the De Anza Planetarium is the largest school planetarium in the western United States. A quarter of the enrolled college students say their first exposure to astronomy was through attending a De Anza planetarium show when they were in elementary school.
