Background and Vision for the Water Institute • Independent Water Institute – an advanced research-based 501(c)3 organization • Create science and technology in Louisiana to inform federal and state coastal restoration and hurricane protection efforts, build capacity, and expertise • Bring together the best scientists in the state and the country, leverage existing public and private resources, and build an industry for coastal restoration and hurricane protection for which Louisiana is uniquely situated.

Role of Science andEngineering Advisory Council • SEAC: A group of experts with national and international experience in relevant technical disciplines who are familiar with Louisiana’s coastal program • Provide independent review of The Water Institute’s program of work and offer advice and recommendations to the CEO • Assist in developing a plan for The Water Institute’s priorities and areas of focus as stated in the CEA • Provide an annual scorecard based on an evaluation of the work accomplished during the prior year • Provide expertise to help shape solutions for critical needs (could be done individually and/or collectively) • Validate the independence and credibility of The Water Institute 13
