Safety and security • Generally low rate of crime in Czech Republic • Main problem: Street crime –particularly pick-pocketing and occasional mugging • Violent crime (still relatively infrequent), are becoming more common in Prague • Don’t take open drinks at bars or clubs • Be careful while riding trains, trams or metro, where most crime occurs • Keep a copy of your passport in a safe place separate from the passport itself!!! (you may come to my office to get your passport copied)

Medical Care • In case of emergency or an accident use any hospital or health clinic. • If your medical problem is not an emergency, speak to me or the program assistant – Brno has several clinics that cater to English-speaking clients that can provide a network of services from basic examination to accompanying a patient to the hospital.   14. Tests and course evaluation • Final Test 45% • Essay45% • In-class participation 10 % • Late penalty: 2% will be deducted per day for late work • The threshold to pass is 55 points of 100 possible. • The grade scale is as follows: A 82-100, B 75-81, C 68-74, D 61-67, E 55-60, F 0-54.

Brno public transport • Consists of trams, city buses and trolley buses • The residence stop: “Klusáčková“ – tram 12 and 13 (in directions “Technologický park”) from “Česká” or “Hlavní nádraží” stop • During nights: Take bus #93 (in direction “Kolejní”) or #99 (in direction “Komín, sídliště”). Taxi • No standard price for taxi services, but drivers are required to display their prices, usually on the door. • A reasonable price is CZK 25 per km. • A drive from both Hlavní nádraží (the Main Railway Station) and Grand bus station to Kounicova Halls of Residence should cost approximately CZK100. • Don’t use taxi in Prague! You might get substantially overcharged there!
