  2. Una Central Nuclear es una central termoeléctrica en la que actúa como caldera un reactor nuclear. El vapor de agua a presión se produce gracias al calor generado en la fisión(rotura) de los núcleos atómicos de elementos radiactivos, principalmente uranio. Se suelen utilizar los isotopos de uranio U-235 y U-238. La ventaja principal de las centrales nucleares es su alta rentabilidad en la producción de energía. Sus inconvenientes primordiales son la gestión y almacenamiento de los residuos radiactivos, así como el riesgo que para la población conllevan los posibles accidentes nucleares. En España hay 7 centrales activas:
