Arab • Good suggestion from text: “If you’re going to ask someone about these preferences, ask, ‘What is your heritage?’ not “What do I call you?” or “What are you?”

  7. Appropriateness: Sexist Language • Avoiding the generic “he.” • The solution: Use plural pronouns when possible. • Avoiding sexist nouns. • The solution: Focus on function! • Remember, know your audience & consider the situation.
