  1. 7th Grade Social Studies

  2. Course Description • Students will be active participants instead of a passive observer, experiencing history through innovative teaching practices that include dramatic role playing, creative simulations, dynamic group projects, and writing from a historical perspective.

  3. What will we cover? • ancient and modern times, or the medieval world:

  4. Grades • 60% Tests • 20% Projects • 10% Classwork (Notes) • 10% Homework (Processing Assignment) • There is no Extra Credit in this class!!! However…any time you score below a 70% on a test you can complete “Test Corrections” to possibly improve your score to a 70%.

  5. Middle School Policy: • No late work, but the 2 lowest homework scores each trimester will be dropped. • A paper or project 1 class period late will receive no higher than 75%, after that 0. • Test corrections can be made for test below a C- to bring a test up to a C- level, test corrections need to be made within 1 week of being returned

  6. Homework and Classwork • Each chapter the students receive an ISN (Interactive Student Notebook)

  7. ISN (Interactive Student Notebook) • Includes: • Chapter notes • Processing Assignment • Applying what you have learned. • Chapter Study Guide

  8. What does class look like? • Each chapter the students receive an ISN (Interactive Student Notebook) • We read the chapter together in class • Take notes together in class • We try to have at least one activity per chapter.

  9. Chapter Test • Multiple Choice (usually 8 problems) • Example: What did most peasants do for their lords? • Educated children • Raised crops • Collected taxes • Trained soldiers • Fill-in • Short Answer

  10. Chapter Test • Multiple Choice (usually 8 problems) • Fill-in • Compare and Contrast the lives of nobles and peasants on a feudal manor. • Short Answer

  11. Chapter Test • Multiple Choice (usually 8 problems) • Fill-in • Short Answer • Pretend you are a knight in Medieval Europe. You would like to let your future generations of your family know what life was like on a feudal manor. Write a letter to them.
