Background • ECOWAS the 15 Member States have determined that the provision of affordable electricity supply to consumers and industry can more easily be achieved by interconnecting the electricity networks of countries in the region • To this end, the West African Power Pool (WAPP) was established in 1999 • The Bolgatanga (Ghana) – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) electricity interconnection is one of WAPPs priority interconnection projects. • WAPP Secretariat, on behalf of the VRA of Ghana and SONABEL of Burkina Faso, is coordinating the implementation of the 225 kV Bolgatanga (Ghana) – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) interconnection project to permit the exportation of cheaper power to Burkina Faso from Ghana
