Column 1 is the value for Element 1, Column 2 is the value for Element 2, Column 3 is the value for Element 3, and Column 4 is the value for Element 4. Column 5 represents the value for the deep dose or (DC value) and column 6 is the value for the dose to the lens of the eye (DL value). Row 2 represents the values for soft beta (low energy beta), row 3 to hard beta (high energy beta, and row 4 to slow neutrons. Each of the values above indicate how that particular element responds to a dose of 100 mrem by each element. • Example: If a TLD were exposed to 100 mrem of soft beta only, the elements would read: • E1 = 73.6, E2 = 0, E3 = 0, E4 = 0, DC= 0, and DL = 0. • After the TLD is processed by the Panasonic UD-710 Reader, the reader provides a raw data reading for each of the four elements of the TLD. At this point the work of the TLD reader is completed and these values are taken by the VAX computer system and applied to the particular response matrix that was selected by the operator (in the above example is the neutron/beta/gamma response matrix). The values above are “multipliers” and are multiplied by the value for each element’s raw data value.
