  2. Abstract This presentation proposes improvement on active scanning. Home Network Identifier is proposed to be used to select AP with roaming agreement, and QoS requirements are proposed to be included in Probe Request to reduce useless AP responses. Background, related contributions • 12/0191r3: Call for Contributions to the TGai Specification Framework; • 12/0151r7: Approved Proposed specification framework for Tgai • 12/0206r1: Probe request with wildcard SSID will bring severe packet flooding • Multiple contributions have been submitted to 802.11ai TG regarding active scanning improvements, e.g., • 12/153 r7: The 802.11ai shall define a mechanism to enable selective active scanning. • 12/0259r5: Additional filtering item can be used to filter out unnecessary probe responses. • 12/0124r2: Include a network identifier in probe request to restrict the number of APs that respond to a broadcast probe request. Roaming STA active scanning • Usage Scenario • When STA leave its home networks，it tend to scan for APs that are deployed by the network which have roaming agreements with its home network. • But usually user knows its home network , but doesn’t know the roaming agreement with other network. • When wildcard SSID is used , it will cause Probe response flooding. • Proposal • Roaming STA can include Home network identifier in Probe Request • AP send probe response if it has roaming agreement with the STA’s home network and meet the other requirement of the Probe Request Huawei.

Active scanning with QoS requirement • Problem • Now it is not until ADDTS that STA can express its QoS requirement to AP, and if the AP can’t meet its requirement, the whole link setup time will be wasted • QoS requirement available for AP discovery • A sta connect to a AP and is playing a online song, and the STA is moving. Once it lose the connection of the AP, it can’t handover another AP with service continuity, so it wants to find another AP which can support online song playing ASAP • For smart phone, when you try to run some APP, the phone will popup with some APs for you to choose • Proposal • STA can include QoS requirements in Probe Request • AP send probe response if it can meet the QoS requirement and other filter information from the Probe Request Huawei.
