  1. 13 Most Expensive NFTs Sold Around The World

  2. 1. The First 5,000 Days Mike Winkelmann, popularly known as Beeple, is an experienced digital artist and graphic designer who created the digital artwork collage The First 5,000 Days. Winkelmann began working at the college in May 2007 and has been posting art pieces every day for the past 13 years. The artwork was only available through Christie’s, an NFT auction house, and was purchased for $69,346,250 by crypto millionaire MetaKovan. He viewed Beeple as an “artist of the digital-native generation.” The auction was also the first fully digital-work auction on NFTs to accept payment in the form of a cryptocurrency (ETH). Following the sale, Beeple gained a large following on Instagram, amassing 1.8 million followers and landing collaborations with brands like Nike and Louis Vuitton.

  3. 2. CryptoPunk #7523 CryptoPunks are collectibles made up of 8-bit graphics of humanoid beings called Punks, each with its own set of characteristics. It’s one of only nine Alien punks, CryptoPunk #7523. Its medical mask attribute offers it a particular topicality in these COVID-influenced times. This could be one reason why it was purchased for a stunning $11.8 million by DraftKings’. “I really wanted this particular CryptoPunk,” Mackenzie told Decrypt.

  4. 3. CryptoPunk #3100 Because it is one of the “Alien” varieties, which account for only 9 out of 10,000 CryptoPunks, Punk #3100 is exceptionally rare. Another feature that adds to the character’s rarity is its headband, which is worn by just 405 other Punks.

  5. 4. CryptoPunk #7804 Punk #7804 is a CryptoPunk series NFT that was sold almost simultaneously with #3100 in March 2021. It’s yet another Alien Punk, a very rare creature. It also sports three accessories: a pipe, a cap, and sunglasses. There are only 378 punks who smoke pipes, 254 who wear caps, and 317 who use little shades. Around 4,200 ETH was paid for the item, which was worth $7,566,173.88 at the time.

  6. 5. Crossroad Beeple also developed Crossroad, a digital artwork that was resold for $6.6 million on Nifty Gateway. It is an NFT marketplace operated by Gemini, a famous cryptocurrency exchange. After losing the 2020 US presidential elections, former US President Donald Trump is depicted lying down with many marks on his skin.

  7. 6. OceanFront Ocean Front is a new age masterpiece from Beeple’s “Everydays” series that depicts the dangers of climate change. The initial price was $2.77 million, with Tron Founder Justin Sun, Middle Eastern music company 3F Music, and NFT whale BabyBeluga competing for the top spot. Justin ended up with the winning bid of $6 million.

  8. 7. Ringers#879 Artist Dmitri Cherniak created this. It was sold on the OpenSea marketplace platform via secondary market transaction for 1800 ETH at roughly $5.8 million on August 27th. Three Arrows Capital, a cryptocurrency investment firm, was the buyer. This transaction was the greatest money ever spent on an Art Blocks piece, with the previous high being 1000 ether (about $2.6 million). It’s also more than three times the previous record for a single Ringers piece, which was 500 ether (about $1.6 million).

  9. 8. CryptoPunk #5217 CryptoPunk #5127, one of 24 Ape punks wearing a knitted cap and a gold chain. It was sold for $5.44 million in July 2021. Recently NFT Platform Art Blocks Makes Record with $5.8M Sale

  10. 9. World Wide Web Source Code Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of the World Wide Web, stunned many when he stated to auction an NFT at Sotheby’s. The auction took place on June 23rd. The auction ended a week later, on June 30, with the successful bidder agreeing to pay $5.43 million for their cherished NFT.

  11. 10. CryptoPunk #7252 When CryptoPunk #7252 was purchased in early August 2021 for $2.5 million. However, it took only a few weeks to double the money and was sold on August 24 for $5.33 million.

  12. 11. Save Thousand of Lives The Noora Health a nonprofit organization developed the “Save Thousands of Lives” NFT to raise funds for its work with new mothers in South Asia. It anticipated that it could save 9 kids for every 1,000 live births at a cost of $1,235 per life spared. With the NFT selling for 1,337 ETH ($5.1 million) in May 2021, it’s certainly accomplished its goal.

  13. 12. Stay Free In April 2021, NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden entered the NFT by developing and auctioning off a digital artwork named “Stay Free.” The artwork was sold for $4.9 million on the community-driven NFT marketplaceFoundation. The money went to the Freedom of the Press Foundation, a non-profit that promotes free speech.

  14. 13. CryptoPunk #2338 On August 6th Punk 2338 was sold for $4.4 million. Previously, it was purchased back in November 2018 for just $443. However, they made a 1,000,000% return in less than 3 years. The punk is one of only 88 Zombies in a total of 10,000 CryptoPunks. It is also one of only four with the thin mohawk trait, making it an extremely rare specimen.

  15. Why are NFTs so expensive? Buyers are flexing their digital wallets in some cases to show off how much cryptocurrency they have. Although, in others, there is a deeper curiosity regarding the purchase of NFTs. These most expensive NFTs are appealing because their uniqueness and ownership can be validated. They can be used across different organizations’ applications, and they can be exchanged easily on secondary markets. These characteristics open the door to new business models and application cases. The two valid reasons for NFTs being so expensive are primarily due to their blockchain technology and their head-turning art. Author: RIKTA MANDAL
