  3. Origin • HDB (Housing Development Board) • Set up in 1960 to solve housing problems • Population was expanding • About 1.5 decades since World War II • Housing state before HDB: • Unhygienic slums • Crowded settlements

  4. Origin • Target: 50000 flats by 1965 • Actual : 21000 Flats by 1963 • 54000 flats built, housing the population • Only 9% lived in HDB then, • Now 84% are housed in flats!

  5. Purpose • In charge of all housing issues • Strong government support • Funds and power • To improve standard of living • House the population!

  6. Approaches • In charge from planning to construction • Seamless whole, reduce miscommunications • 3 main strategies to tackle problems • 1 agency controlling public housing • Resource planning and allocation • Allow for large-scaled construction

  8. Schemes • Usage of CPF to pay for houses • Increased chances of having a home • Space and cost optimized to lower cost • Minimum room sizes • Ease and hasten construction process
