WFDSA’s Code of EthicsToolkit – Follow the Code, Communicate the Code, Promote the Code was designed by the WFDSA Ethics Committee to educate various constituencies around the world about the best business practices and ethical standards of the direct selling industry. This toolkit contains flexible tools for DSAs and their members to help them communicate and promote the Code to the widest audience possible. Whether you are a consumer, educator, public policy official, independent distributor or a  direct selling company we’ve got an exciting and instructive tool for you. Participation Criteria

DSA Guidelines: Implement minimum of five criteria from the threesections below but no less than one criteria from each section Demonstrate that the criteria were implemented prior to the end of the calendar year Commit to continue implementing the criteria through at least the next calendar year Participation Criteria

  6. Ethics Recognition Program for DSAs • COMMUNICATE the Code • Publish the Code-at-a-Glance brochure • Publish complaint handling procedure on the website • Publish contact information (name, email, address, phone number) for the Independent Code Administrator

Ethics Recognition Program for DSAs • PROMOTE the Code to Member Companies • Require member companies to appoint a Code Responsibility Officer (CRO), a liaison between member companies and the DSA/Independent Code Administrator responsible for company adherence to the Code • Conduct Code training for new/existing members • Require member companies to submit a plan, with their annual dues payment, of how they are promoting the Code

Ethics Recognition Program for DSAs • PROMOTE the Code to External Constituencies • Distribute copies of the Code-at-a-Glance brochure to government officials, consumer agencies, academia, media, etc. • Obtain a “seal of approval” by local government/consumer protection agencies that can be used on all DSA and member company materials along with the DSA logo • Include the Code-at-a-Glance brochure or reference to the Code (URL) on all DSA literature and newsletters and in all press materials/events

Company Eligibility/Guidelines: Implement minimum of five criteria from the foursections below but no less than one criteria from each section Demonstrate that the criteria were implemented prior to the end of the calendar year Commit to continue implementing the criteria through at least the next calendar year Companies whose direct selling model is under investigation in the country where the program is implemented are temporarily ineligible for participation in the program until the matter is resolved Participation Criteria

  10. Ethics Recognition Program for Companies • FOLLOW the Code • Appoint a Code Responsibility Officer (CRO), who will serve as a liaison between your company, DSA and the Independent Code Administrator and will be responsible for company’s adherence to the Code

Ethics Recognition Program for Companies • COMMUNICATE the Code • Publish the Code-at-a-Glance brochure on the company website with a link to the local DSA website • Provide Code training for company associates • Include information on Code at company meetings • Include information on Code for employee orientation ((link here to Code-at-a-Glance, our Promise to Consumers and Our Promise to Direct Sellers • Engage a member of the DSA or WFDSA staff to give an industry presentation to company employees

Ethics Recognition Program for Companies • PROMOTE the Code To Distributors • Provide a clear and conspicuous link to the Code or Code-at-a-Glance brochure on the home page of the distributor website • Distribute copies of the complete Code and/or Code-at-a-Glance brochure “Our Promise to Direct Sellers” and “Our Promise to Consumers” handouts to members of the sales force at company events, meetings and in a stand-alone mailing or email • Include copies of the Code-at-a-Glance brochure and/or “Our Promise to Direct Sellers” and “Our Promise to Consumer” handouts in the company’s start up kit • Publish articles about the Code in newsletters to the sales force • Provide a training program on the DSA Code of Ethics for members of the salesforce • Engage a member of the DSA or WFDSA to give a presentation about the Code to the salesforce • Include a “Code of Ethics Quiz” on the distributor website

Ethics Recognition Program for Companies • PROMOTE the Code To Consumers • Include the Code on company website with a link to the DSA website • Include a link to the Code or Code-at-a-Glance brochure on personal websites of distributors • Give distributors leaflets or flyers on the Code to give to their customers • Include a reference (URL) to the Code in company sales materials and marketing catalogs

DSA Awards Global Code of Ethics Gold Recognition Award and Plaque DSA implements all 9 criteria, over 50% of its members participate in the program Recognition via various WFDSA media/events One free registration at the WFDSA regional event for DSA staff Needs to prequalify every year to be able to display the logo/certificate Global Code of Ethics Silver Recognition Award DSA implements 6+ criteria, over 35% of its members participate in the program Recognition via various WFDSA media/events Recognition certificate Needs to prequalify every year to be able to display the logo/certificate Global Code of Ethics Bronze Recognition Award DSA implements minimum of 5 criteria, over 25% of its members participate in the program Recognition via various WFDSA media/events Needs to prequalify every year to be able to display the logo/certificate

  16. The national DSA administers program for companies in its respective country. To apply for recognition, please contact your DSA and ask for the company form.
