  2. WHAT TIME DOES SCHOOL START? • Building opens at 7:30 a.m. (NO supervision before 7:30 a.m.) • Report to grade level hallway. • Class begins at 7:50 a.m • Tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m.

  3. What should I know about arrival? ***Lane in front of school is ONLY for dropping off bus/day care riders 7:30-7:55.*** “Playground” Car Riders (Eagle Springs Pkwy) = Drop off for ALL Kindergarten students AND students residing in: Cottage Grove, Sutters Creek, Preston Village, Arlington Park, Chandlers Crossing, **transfer students** “Cafeteria” Car Riders (Will Clayton Pkwy) = Drop off for students residing in: Laurel Woods, Logan Ridge, Cross Creek, Meadow Lake, Meadow Lodge, Sierra Bridge • CAR RIDER LINES WILL CLOSE AT 7:55 EVERY DAY TO ALLOW STAFF TO GET TO CLASS. STUDENTS ARRIVING AFTER 7:55 SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF IN THE FRONT LANE. All students walking from neighborhoods north of Will Clayton Parkway will cross through the tunnel. Due to safety, crossing guards will only cross students across Eagle Springs Parkway.

  4. is BREAKFAST served AT SCHOOL ? • Breakfast Served: 7:30 – 7:55 • Cost: $1.30

  5. ARE CELL PHONES ALLOWED AT SCHOOL ? • Students are permitted to have cell phones, but they must be turned OFF and stored in backpacks during the school day. • Students are not permitted to bring other electronics to school, (such as a Nintendo DS or iPod.)

  6. WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT SAFETY AT SCHOOL ? The safety of students and staff is our highest priority. Some of the safety measures we implement are: • All visitors are required to show i.d. and wear identification in the building. • Check-out and dismissal procedures are strictly followed. • Monthly emergency drills are held. • Any suspicious activity is immediately investigated. • Anti-bullying lessons are presented to students. • Walkers/bikers are not released during severe weather. • Security cameras monitor the front office, cafeteria, entrances, and playgrounds at all times. Contact Mrs. Maldonado or Mrs. Burkhardt if you have any safety concerns!

  7. What should I wear to school ? • Dress Code is on DM11-12 of the Parent/Student Handbook. Highlights for elementary students: • Hair should be neat, clean, & non-disruptive. • NO caps, hats, sunglasses, makeup, tattoos, excessively loose or tight clothing. For boys:NO earrings, sleeveless shirts. • NO “short shorts” (must be between knee & mid-thigh) • NO flip-flops!(Tennis shoes required on P.E. days.) LABEL ALL JACKETS, COATS, LUNCH KITS, ETC. with student name. Helpful Hint: Keep a jacket or sweater in your backpack. Sometimes it is chilly in the classrooms. Every FRIDAY is SPIRIT DAY – Wear your ESE shirt!

  8. What should I know about lunch ? Prices: • Lunch = $2.00 • Frozen Treats - $0.75 You may deposit money into a lunch account by sending check/cash to school OR electronically through the Humble ISD website. Menu items are published weekly in the Eagle Eye or monthly menus may be printed from the Humble ISD website. Parents are welcome to join students for lunch! Visitors must first check in at the front office. Parents are allowed to bring in outside food for their child only. It can not be shared with other children. (Texas FMNV Law)

  9. How can I recognize a child’s birthday at school ? • Frozen treats for your child’s class can be purchased from the cafeteria, for a reduced price of $.50/per child, and served at the end of lunch in the cafeteria. • Delivery of cupcakes, cookies, treat bags, balloons, etc. is NOT permitted at school. • Per Humble ISD Handbook: Birthday party invitations may NOT be distributed at school.

  10. What if I need to talk to my child’s teacher ? Relationships between parents & teachers are very important at ESE! Do not hesitate to call or email your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns! Fall Parent Conference Dates • Thursday, October 27 • Friday, October 28 Every student is required to have a fall conference.

  11. How can I volunteer at school ? We love our volunteers! • There are many opportunities to help in our workroom or during special events as a PTO Volunteer. (Volunteering within classrooms is allowed only on a limited basis.) • All volunteers must check in at the front office, obtain a visitor’s badge, and remain only in area designated on badge. • Parents wishing to observe their child’s classroom must contact Mrs. Maldonado or Mrs. Burkhardt to arrange the observation. • NO visitors are allowed on campus when state-mandated tests are being administered. We hope all ESE families will join the PTO! PTO is very supportive of the staff and students of Eagle Springs Elementary!

  12. What if I need to check my child out early ? • Send requests for early pickup and/or changes in dismissal in writing to the teacher at the beginning of the day. • Requests not sent at that time should be made by calling the Front Office no later than 2:00 p.m. • Students must be signed out through the front office, and will only be allowed to leave with persons indicated by parent on enrollment card. • If child must be picked up early, do so prior to 2:45 p.m.

  13. How can I find out what is going on at school ? • To stay up-to-date on school happenings, it is important to read the EAGLE EYE each week. • If you are NEW to Eagle Springs OR your email address has changed…Go to our website under “HEADLINES” and sign up to have the newsletter emailed to you every Tuesday. Paper copies will be available in the front office or by request for parents without internet access.

  14. What special events are already planned for 2011-12 ? We hope families can join us for these special events: • Friday, Sept 9 –K.I.S.S. (Kids Invite Someone Special) Lunch • Friday, Nov 11 –Veteran’s Day Breakfast • Thursday, Nov 17 –Family Night • Friday, Nov 18 –Thanksgiving Feast • Friday, Dec 16 –Winter Parties • Friday, Feb 10 –Friendship Parties • Friday, March 9 –Super Kids Day • Saturday, March 31 –Spring Carnival • Thursday, May 17 –Kindergarten Splash Day

  15. Will there be early release days this year ? YES…Students will be released at 11:30 on these dates: • Aug 26, Sept 22, Oct 26, Oct 27, Oct 28, Nov 10, Dec 16, Jan 26, Mar 1, May 17, June 1 Lunch will be available for purchase on these days. Students may: • Purchase lunch from the cafeteria • Bring a lunch from home • Opt to bring just a snack, if planning to eat after dismissal Schedule for Dismissal: *All students will be released at 11:30.

  16. What should I know about dismissal? KINDER STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED AT 1:50. 1ST-5TH STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED AT 3:20. Car Rider, Bus Rider, and Day Care Bus Rider Information: *Same neighborhood designations as Arrival • “Playground” Car Riders (Eagle Springs Pkwy) • “Cafeteria” Car Riders (Will Clayton Pkwy) • Car Rider signs MUST be displayed daily, all school year. Parents may not walk up to the car rider line to pick up a child. • Lane in front of school is reserved for bus riders/day care riders only. Cars riders may NOT be picked up in the front lane.

  17. What should I know about dismissal? Walker and Biker Information: • FRONT WALKERS: Students designated as “Front Walkers” will be directed to the tunnel to walk home. Parents walking or biking home with students may meet them in the front of the school. (For the safety of everyone, parents are strongly encouraged to pick up students in a car rider line, rather than parking and walking up to the front of the school to retrieve students.) • BACK WALKERS: Students designated as “Back Walkers” will be released behind the school to walk home. Parents walking or biking home with students may meet them in the back of the school. NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED TO PICK UP “BACK WALKERS” BY PARKING ALONG THE PERIMETER OR WITHIN THE PARKING LOT.
