  1. Integrated Shipbuilding Environment (ISE) ISE-6 Phase 2 DDG 1000 TDWG Collaboration Authoring Ship Information Book (SIB) using S1000D

  2. Overview • Effort is part of S1000D Use Case “Develop S1000D Technical Publications and Training Modules” • Support DDG 1000 Technical Data Working Group (TDWG) in the development of S1000D technical publications (with focus on Shipyards) • Initial teleconference held 24 July with DDG 1000 TDWG members • Participation from ISE-6 team members, NSWCCD, NGSB and BIW • Agreed to use one of the Ship Information Books (SIB) being developed by NGSB as a trial case for authoring in S1000D • Agreed on general approach

  3. Approach • Select a candidate SIB and develop chapter/section outline according to current authoring process • Identify list of required data modules from outline • Structure data modules, along with data module metadata, into a Data Module Requirements List (DMRL) suitable for import into S1000D authoring tool • Import DMRL into S1000D authoring tool to create initial database of data modules • Auto-populate as much of the metadata as possible, allowing authors to focus on content • Incorporate the Data Module Code (DMC) recommendation into the DMRL • Author content in S1000D authoring tool • Apply process to additional Shipyard SIBs and/or other technical publications as as time and resources permit

  4. Status • Identifying metadata in IDSTATUS area of data module which can be auto-populated • Focus on mandatory fields, using optional fields as needed • Provide recommended default values for an many fields as possible • Populate other fields from current databases (e.g. IDE or ILS tools) • Investigating DMRL structure and capabilities of candidate S1000D authoring tools to import DMRL with expanded metadata • NGSB in the process of selecting candidate SIB
