  3. WRSD Action Plan Update: Fall, 2013 Focus 1. K-12 STEM Team 2. What is STEM – Getting the word out! 3. Where are we in our schools and as a district? Staff Survey, Presentation, Inventory of Practices, Resources Spring, 2014 Focus 4. Data Analysis – Where are we? 5. Identify and Promote STEM 6. Post Assessment 7. Where do we go from here?

STEM Team and Meeting Schedule • The Team has expanded to include: • David Lambert, WRHS Technology Teacher • Peter Howard, WRMS Technology Teacher • Maria Pearson, WRSD Technology Integration Specialist • Dr. Pamela Miller, Assistant Superintendent • Donna Anderson, Fourth Grade Teacher • Still need: • Representative from K-2 Level • A regular meeting schedule • Need to catalogue resources and share with all staff

STEM Presentations September – • Shannon Kruger made a presentation to the WRSD K-12 Administrative Team. • Diane Tandy presented the STEM PowerPoint and completed the staff survey at the high school. October – Brenda Lawrence presented at Southwick School and completed the survey. Still “To Do” Alex Saltmarsh will present at the middle school. Stella Flack will present at Sanbornton Central School A STEM Team member will go and present at Union Sanborn School

  6. STEM Survey Questions: • 1. Please name and briefly describe at least one activity, assignment, or project that you have done in one of your classes that has a STEM-related focus. • 2. Is there one activity, assignment, or project that you feel that you could easily modify for one of your classes to incorporate STEM? If so, please list and briefly describe. • 3. Would you be interested in obtaining any additional training (PD) on incorporating STEM initiatives into any of your current class activities, assignments, or projects? • To Date, the data results of the survey have not been compiled.

  7. WRSD STEM HIGHLIGHTS and SUCCESSES • A fourth grade class went on a field trip to an area business as part of a STEM lesson. • All Middle School Science Teachers joined NHSTA. • An engineer has partnered with a second grade class to work on a Lego project. • Yvonne Spicer Site Visit on 11/4/13 • Hydraulics has been introduced in the 8th grade Tech Ed. Classes.

  8. WRSD STEM HIGHLIGHTS and SUCCESSES • High School students are currently preparing for a bridge building contest at the high school. • Wind Power is an Enrichment group at the Middle School. • STEM Friday’s is a theme at Sanbornton Central School.

  10. Two BIG Challenges Identified by the Team:1. Very difficult to work around MS/HS vs. Elementary schedules and geographic distances between schools.Possible Solution: Work with Assistant Superintendent to build-in time for STEM in the PD days.2. No K-2 Representative.Possible Solution: Current Team member will go do a presentation and hope to gain the interest and support of a teacher that will join the team.
