  5. Borders and Geography • Borders – Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona • Geography – The Rocky Mountains are in Colorado. Two fifths of Colorado is plains. Also it has many rivers and lakes.

  6. Natural Resources, Agriculture and Farming. • Natural resources – mineral deposits, rich soils, and water. • Agriculture/farming – farming on the higher land in Colorado has made large scale farming possible.

  7. History and additional historical facts • Statehood – August 1st 1876, the 38th state • History –Mesa Verde national park in Colorado features cliff dwellings built in canyon walls. Most of them date from the 1200s. • Bents fort, the first permanent American settlement in Colorado was completed in 1833. • The Colorado gold rush began in 1858 after gold was discovered along Dry Creek.

They make up part of the Colorado plateau a region of high hills and deep valleys. Additional facts • The Colorado state flag was adopted in 1911. • The area of Colorado is 104,095 square miles including 454 square miles of inland water. • Colorado's cash crops are corn, potatoes, dry beans, lettuce , spinach and cabbage. • Dairy cattle, sheep, hogs and poultry are raised in Colorado. • By 1876, the vast herds of buffalo that had once roamed the Colorado plains, had almost disappeared. • Colorado has 10 cities with populations of over 100,000 people. They are (in order of size) Denver, Colorado springs, aurora, fort Collins, lake wood, Thornton, pueblo, Avado, west minister, and centennial.
