  1. Citing Using APA Style In-text citing using APA style • Each in-text citation, including those for charts, should correspond with a complete citation on the References page at the end of your report. • For in-text citing using APA style, you will refer to the author and the year of publication.

  2. Example: You are citing information from an article that John Smith published in 2010. In-text citation: In a survey of undergraduate students, Smith (2010) found that most seniors read project instructions before starting an assignment. OR One study found that some students will read project instructions before starting an assignment (Smith, 2010). Complete citation in References: Smith, J. (2010). A case study of student learning. Fictional Journal of Learning, 42 (2), 15-20.

  3. What if you cite three articles by John Smith, and each article was published in 2010? • With the same author and publication year, you need to cite so that the reader understands which in-text cite corresponds with a complete citation on your reference page. • You can do this by using a letter with the publication year of the information (ex: 2010a, 2010b, 2010c).

  4. In-text citing for Passport statistics in charts or tables • For the information you retrieve from the Passport database, it is likely that you will have multiple citations with the same author and publication year. • For information retrieved from Passport, the author is Euromonitor International. • Use a “Source” line at the bottom of your chart or table.

  5. Example: Citing Passport statistics in a table Table 1: Inflation Rates—Annual % Change 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 China 1.5 5.0 6.3 -0.7 3.2 Mexico 3.6 4.0 5.1 5.3 4.2 Egypt 7.6 9.4 18.3 11.8 11.2 Canada 2.0 2.1 2.4 0.3 1.7 Source: Euromonitor International. (2011a). Complete citation in References: Euromonitor International. (2011a). Country statistics--inflation. Retrieved from the Passport database.

  6. Citing statistics from more than one source: If you have a chart with data from multiple sources, you should include an in-text cite for each in the Source line. For example, Table 2 includes data from Passport and also from a 2010 report from the World Bank. Table 2: Corruption Perceptions Index Sources: Euromonitor International. (2011b); World Bank. (2010).

  7. In-text citing for Passport reports In addition to statistics, you may cite information from reports you found in Passport, and these reports may have the same publication year. Examples: • According to Euromonitor International (2011c), cigarette sales in Egypt are expected to grow over the next decade. • Over 90% of smokers in Egypt are men (Euromonitor International, 2011d).

  8. The example below shows how you would cite the information in your tables and text in the References page at the end of your report. References Euromonitor International. (2011a). Country statistics--inflation. Retrieved from the Passport database. Euromonitor International. (2011b). Country statistics--corruption. Retrieved from the Passport database. Euromonitor International. (2011c). Cigarettes-Egypt report. Retrieved from the Passport database. Euromonitor International. (2011d). Consumer lifestyles in Egypt. Retrieved from the Passport database. World Bank. (2010). Doing business report—Egypt. Retrieved from http://www.doingbusiness.org/
