  1. The Kite RunnerbyKhaled Hosseini Hassan

  2. Relationship with Amir • Practically brothers as they nursed from the same woman. • Hassan is a loyal friend and servant to Amir • Even though Hassan is Hazara, he still tries to be Amir’s friend, even though Amir is ashamed to be seen with him. • Hassan suffers severe discrimination and segregation as he is Hazara. Even though he suffers like this, he is still a better person than Amir. • Because Hasan is so loyal to Amir, he will do anything for Amir, even Amir’s cruel pranks. For example, shooting a one-eyed German Shepard with a slingshot. • Another example of Hassan’s loyalty to Amir is when Amir frames him for the theft of his watch and some money. When Baba confronts Hassan, he never actually says he never done it because he wants Amir to be happy. Even if that means leaving his home.

  3. Hassan’s relationship with Baba and Ali • Hassan has close relationships with both men but he has more of a loving relationship with Ali. This creates jealousy from Amir since he doesn’t have that with Baba. • Hassan feels that he can tell Ali anything, this shows the great trust between them as a father and son should. This makes Baba jealous as he doesn’t have that type of relationship with either Amir or Hassan. • On his birthday, Hassan always receives a big, expensive present from Baba for a seemingly unknown reason. • When Hassan is accused of theft by Baba, Ali figures out that Amir has done it out of guilt. Even though his son has been betrayed by his best friend, he doesn’t confront Amir because Hassan told Ali in confidence and he won’t betray that trust.

  4. Hassan’s role in the Story • When Hassan is abused, he starts the change in the book concerning everybody's lives. • Hassan is the reason that Baba and Amir have something to atone for. Hassan is the very essence of innocence and would never do anything to hurt anybody.

  5. Hassan’s impact on Amir • Hassan’s impact on Amir has forever changed Amir for the better. • When Amir was younger, Hassan was someone to hide behind. When he went back to Afghanistan he had to fend for himself. • Hassan has died and Amir feels guilty about that, but there is nothing he can do except when he finds out Hassan had a son. Amir sees this as a chance to repay Hassan some of the kindness given to him.
