  2. Announcements ・ For all registration issues, please go to the Physics Office (Wngr 301). Unless you have prior permission, do not attend any class other than those you’re registered for. ・ No labs meet this week. You will first meet your lab TA next week. Lab TA names/schedules will be posted later this week. (NOTE: If you have the PH 222 or PH 222H recitation, those courses will be meeting this week.) ・ Get your textbook. That’s Physics for Scientists and Engineers, by Randy Knight (4th ed.). You don’t need to buy a lab manual— all labs will be posted online. ・ I expect to be using clickers starting this Wednesday.   3. What are we going to do this term? ・ Extend Newton’s mechanics. We’ve looked at translational motion, momentum, dynamics and mechanical energy. Now we’ll look at the same topics for rotational motion. And later, we’ll study Newton’s Universal Law of Gravity. ・ Apply Newton’s mechanics. We’ll see those basic principles in action as we study the behaviors of fluids, oscillators and waves. ・ Explore other physical phemomena that Newton did: light rays, reflection, refraction, lenses and optical instruments.   4. All About This Course • Read the web site. Start with the Syllabus and FAQs and go from there. The Lab 1 take-home assignment will also help a lot—get started on that right away. • Keep pace! Use the Course Calendar to guide you. There are a lot of topics this term—and with no more than a week spent on each major set, you’ll really get lost if you get behind. There is quite a variety, and we skip around in the textbook somewhat. • Notice on the Calendar: Each lab week starts on Tuesday. • Last term’s PH 211 site is still all posted—use it as a guide and “refresher” as you need it.
