  4. Eligibility Campus EOC Training - May 2014 WHO MUST TEST OR RETEST? • Students who have not met Level II Satisfactory • Students who will complete a course at the end of the Spring semester

  5. Eligibilitycontinued Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Students whose parents waive ESL services are: • Not eligible for linguistic accommodations • STAAR-L testing • STAAR-Modified tests will not be available for administration after Summer 2014 • Online STAAR-L is available for Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History • TEA confirmed students are no longer allowed to retake an EOC exam if they have previously met Level II Satisfactory

  6. Calendar of Events Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  7. Algebra I, Biology, U.S. History Timelines – Actual Testing Dates Determined by Each Campus STAAR STAAR-MODIFIED STAAR-L (online for Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History) Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  8. Campus Testing Schedule • ADD your campus-specific information about testing schedule (When will testing begin? How will late arrivals be tested? What is the schedule for lunch?). • What is your procedure for attendance? • What is the procedure for the consolidation of students testing beyond the 4 hours? Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  9. DUTIES Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  10. TA Duties • Maintain test security • Distribute test materials to students prior to testing • Implement testing policies and procedures as directed in training • Read aloud test directions and telecommunication devices policies verbatim • Actively Monitor at all times • Monitor and speak or post time remaining; do so more frequently during last hour. IF ANY STUDENTS ARE NOT BUBBLING IN THEIR ANSWERS BY THE LAST 30 – 45 MINUTES OF TESTING, contact a CTC! • Make sure desks are cleared of materials not used for testing • Report any suspected incidents or irregularities to a CTC or Campus Administrator • Prepare test materials for return to CTC Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  11. Test Security Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  12. Test Security Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Test Security and Confidential Integrity is the responsibility of ALLNISD employees • Each staff member who has access to testing materials must have completed security training through their campus and signed their Oath prior to handling any test materials

  13. Test Security continued Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Test materials must be secured at all times in locked storage • Scratch paper, graph paper, supplemental aids, or reference materials on which students have written MUST be returned to the CTC after testing • Do NOT leave any loose, used OR unused materials in test booklets; TA must collect and return them to the CTC with other test materials at check-in • No individuals, other than students, may perform calculations, solve, or respond to test items during test administrations

  14. Potential Pitfalls To Avoid • Administering and/or monitoring tests if you have not been trained • NOT CALLING for help from a CTC or Campus Administrator RIGHT AWAY if students are misbehaving or disruptive, sleeping, not bubbling in their answers in a timely manner, etc. The clock is ticking! • Going beyond the 4-hour time limit or NOT providing a full 4 hours to students (or extended time to students with that accommodation). • Failing to remind students to record their responses and/or failing to verify that students have bubbled their answers before the end of testing – IF this occurs, the test is marked as SCORE and it is a testing irregularity. Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  15. More Potential Pitfalls To Avoid • Reading student’s test booklet to give an Oral Administration (does not apply for students receiving an “at student’s request” accommodation) • Leaving students unattended during test administration • Not accounting for all test booklets, answer documents, and accommodations (where applicable) for each administration • Allowing student to continue bubbling after the 4 hours has elapsed • If a student has accidentally logged in for STAAR-L testing as another student or TA has logged in a student who is absent on that day of testing, do NOT mark test as complete. Notify your CTC as soon as possible. Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  16. Key Policies Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  17. STAAR Time Limits Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Time starts when test directions are completed • ALL responses must be filled in on answer document by the end of the 4-hour time period • Students who have not completed their tests within allotted 4 hours must submit only what they have completed

  18. STAAR Time Limits continued Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • STOP the clock AND document for: • Medical breaks • Emergencies which affect students’ ability to continue testing • Lunch • Traveling from one testing location to another • Do NOT stop the clock for: • Restroom breaks • Snack breaks • Stretch or mental breaks or sleeping

  19. Emergencies During Testing • If an emergency situation arises during testing, TAs must notify a CTC as quickly as possible • If CTC cannot be contacted, they should ask Hall Monitor to get CTC or other campus Administrator immediately • Everyone must consider the safety of students and personnel first and foremost Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  20. Emergencies During Testing continued • Should the bells ring to evacuate the building, have students place their answer document in the test booklet and close it. Leave the materials on their desks and exit quietly and calmly. If possible, doors should be locked when exiting. • If an individual student has an emergency and leaves the room, secure their test materials. If student cannot continue, note the time testing stopped on seating chart. Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  21. Extra Time (Same Day) Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Students eligible for XT are NOT required to use the entire day • Documentation for eligible students will be provided to the TA • TAs MUST know which students receive extra time IF they are scattered throughout a testing area

  22. Calculators for Algebra I and Biology Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Graphing calculator must be provided to each student taking Algebra I • Calculator must be available for every five students taking Biology • Calculator memory must be cleared between students and/or tests

  23. Reference Materials for Algebra I • Embedded in test booklets • Perforated so students can tear them out • If students damage a reference material, notify your CTC as soon as possible • Return ALL reference material that is written on to your CTC

  24. Proper Testing Procedures Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  25. Testing Procedures • Personally distribute test materials to each student - do NOT allow students to pass materials to one another • Verify students have the answer document with their name on it • Make sure that each student has written his/her name on the test booklet before you collect it • Ensure all instructional aids and materials on walls are covered • Make sure all seating areas are cleared of books and other materials not required or allowed for the test • Ensure each student is issued the appropriate test and has the correct, corresponding answer document Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  26. Test Administration Directions Campus EOC Training - May 2014 Make note of the pages you will need; mark them during training Separate training for TAs administering STAAR-Modified, STAAR-L, Oral Administrations, and Transcriptions is required

  27. Test Administration Directions continued Campus EOC Training - May 2014 • Narrow call-out boxescontain procedural instructions. They are NOT read aloud to students. 29. Active Monitoring MEANS: TA is actively engaged in monitoring testing Move around testing area, pause briefly in various places Confirm students have no unauthorized materials, including cell phones Make sure students are awake, alert, and steadily working Ensure each student has placed their responses on their answer document and if a student has not done so, TAmustsay (as many times as necessary), “You have not recorded all of your responses on the answer document. Please do so now.” . Campus EOC Training - May 2014

  30. Lack of Active Monitoring MEANS: • Working on computer, iPad/tablet, or doing email • Texting or talking on cell phone • Reading a book, magazine, or newspaper • Grading papers or planning lessons • Leaving room without a trained and certified TA/Monitor in the room • Leaving students unattended during lunch • Reading a test over a student’s shoulder • Checking student responses during testing Campus EOC Training - May 2014
