  1. How Ancient Rome is a Civilization By Claire S. and Bianca N.

  2. The Seven Characteristics of a Civilization To have a civilization you need 7 things. One of these things is technology, this doesn’t mean a phone or an iPod, this means things that make daily life easier. Another one of these seven things is religion, for example today many people use the religion of Christianity. Another of these seven things is written language, like in the ancient India civilization they used Sanskrit. The fourth of these 7 characteristics is stable food supply, like if they did not have a stable food supply then most of the population would die off. Another one of these 7 characteristics the arts, life would be boring without art! Another one of these 7 characteristics is government, without it the civilization would be out of control. The last characteristic is social structure, like the poor are at the bottom class and the rich are at the top class. All of these characteristics are important, because without these characteristics they civilization would be out of control.

  3. Technology Ancient Rome had the characteristic of technology, because they had bridges so they would be able to travel easily.

  4. Religion They had religion, because they believed in many gods or goddesses. They believed in the same gods as the Greeks did but they changed some of they names, example: Zeus- Jupiter, Poseidon- Neptune.

  5. Written Language Ancient Rome had a written language, because they altered the Etruscan alphabet (they had an alphabet). They also wrote in all capital letters.

  6. Stable Food Supply They had stable food supply, because the rich had kitchens (so they could make food) and the poor got food from places selling them on the street they called it “fast food”. They ate bread, beans, and spices.

  7. The Arts They had art, because they made paintings, and they admired Greek pottery. They also became skilled at creating life like portraits, they also made statures.

  8. Government Ancient Rome had government, because they believed in strict laws and they had emperors.

  9. Social Structure They had social structure, because the poor has small apartments , and the rich had big houses called villas.

  10. Now do you believe me that Ancient Rome is a civilization?
