K-12 Olweus Council • The Olweus Council is made up of at least one representative from each of our buildings, which then lead their building School Climate Committee. • We have 2 summer work days every year. • Analyze Data • Planning for the following year • Trainings • New ideas (based on our data) • School-wide activities • We have two ½ days built in through the school year for continued work.

  4. 2013-2014 ThemeThe Energy Bus by: Jon Gordon • This book shows children how to overcome negativity, bullying and everyday challenges to be their best. The Energy Bus For Kids is a story that will teach kids how to find their inner motivation and pass on that positive energy to others.

  6. Olweus and PBIS • Be Respectful (PBIS) • We will not bully others (Olweus). • Be Responsible (PBIS) • We will help students who are bullied (Olweus). • Be Safe (PBIS) • If someone is being bullied, tell an adult at school and at home (Olweus).

Olweus and PBISSchool Based SEL Programs improve students’ classroom behaviors & reduce conduct problems such as bullying Olweus • Engage students in meaningful and relevant classroom meetings about bullying and relationships • Understand the nature of bullying and its effects • Respond, if they observe or hear of bullying • Work with others at the school to help prevent bullying from occurring • Execute a safety plan for a student who has been bullied PBIS • Define behavior expectations • Teach the behavior expectations • Acknowledge desirable behaviors • Respond consistently to behavior violations • Provide targeted supports for students who need them

Celebrations!!! • More students are liking school (1% increase) • More students are feeling safer in the following areas: • Recess (2% increase) • Hallway (1% increase) • On the bus (1% increase) • More kids are reporting that they have NEVER been bullied (3% increase) • More kids are reporting to an adult (1% increase)

What Are Our Continued Areas of Concern? • School Bus and Bus Loading Zone • Cyber Bullying • Helping students better use the strategies they have been taught. • Intake an Investigation of Bullying • People feeling like bullying isn’t dealt with • Social Emotional Learning for all. • Training for ALL staff • Better support of staff, students and parents in the area of bullying • Lack of time being devoted to bullying prevention and community building

  10. My 2014-2015 Goals • Work this summer on plans as a K-12 Councilfor 2 days to prepare for the 2014-2015 school year • Training for ALL staff on what bullying is,the bullying circle, how to report bullying and on the spot interventions • District work (review of our policy, one standard reporting form, investigation protocol, review of bullying reports to confirm it is unfounded, interventions for students who have bullied, have been bullied and witnessed bullying, common lessons for all students…) • Focus on Connecting with Parents and the Community. • Community theme? The Power of ONE. Be the One! • Parent/Community Newsletter 3 times per year
