  1. University Chouaib Doukkali Telecommunication & Networks Laboratory El jadida - Morocco Design of a Collaborative Learning Management System Based on a Workspace Metaphor and Multi–Agents vision Najib ELKAMOUN, Mohammed BOUSMAH, Abdelhak AQQAL, Abdelghafour BERRAISSOUL Exposed by : MOHAMMED BOUSMAH bousmah@ucd.ac.ma

  2. Plan 1. Introduction 2. Presentation of the Platform 3. Reporting system description (observer of use) 4. Implementation 5. Experimental validation & analysis of results 6. Conclusion

  3. 1. Introduction: • Online learning is now a reality thanks to the development of Internet and to the virtual campus. So: • The challenge (both conceptually and technically) is how to develop a virtual campus where technology can play an important role in structuring and supporting effective learning?

  4. 1. Introduction: Why space metaphor and a Multi-Agent System? • We think that : the construction of a virtual campus based on a (work) space metaphor associated with a Multi-Agent System (MAS) can be an answer.

  5. 1. Introduction: Space metaphorallows the projection of a familiar concept, more concrete, (here the real campus), on another concept which is it less concrete (here the virtual campus). Multi-Agent System vision can provide a sight synthetic on actors interaction information. ok

  6. 2.Presentation of the Platform M@roc TéléFormation (MTF) is a virtual environment based on a space metaphordeveloped by the Telecommunications & Network laboratory LTR in the Chouaib Doukkali University El Jadida (2002).

  7. 2. Presentation of the Platform: Welcome page New events window Enter : Login Password Profil of connection

  8. 2. Presentation of the Platform: Public space Tools of collaboration Different modules List of the present Virtual desk Space home

  9. 2.Presentation of the Platform:Module space course exercises activities Historic of talk List of present only in this space Room of meeting of this module

  10. 2. Presentation of the Platform: Course space Pedagogical scenario table of contents List of present in this course

  11. 3. Reporting system description (observer of use) an observer system of use for all spaces We can model our virtual environment MTF by the next spaces: group space public space individual space team space

  12. 3. Reporting system description (observer of use) In each space, we can find : Actors, tools, resources and activities. supervisor spaces agent The agent hierarchy of our reporting system is made around several supervisor agents : supervisor resources agent supervisor tools agent supervisor actors agent supervisor activities agent

  13. 4. Implementation • We have chosen the MaSE methodology (Multiagent System Engineering) for the development of our software agents. • and we have chosen JADE (Java Agent Development Framework) for the construction of the multi-agents systems.

  14. 5. Experimental validation Connections and meeting statistics chat in a team space

  15. 5. Experimental validation Use statistics of the mail tool by the team members

  16. 5. Experimental validation Rate of communication in the meetings of team (named equipe431) during 3rd/4th phases The team named “equipe431” is homogeneous gathering members implied in an equitable way in the activity

  17. 5. Experimental validation Rate of communication in the meetings of team (named equipe433) during 3rd/4th phases An example of a not very communicating element within a team

  18. 5. Experimental validation Use statistics of the forum tool for the collective activity(1st phase) The use of the forum was not respected according to the scenario of the first activity (stage 2 and 3)

  19. 5. Experimental validation User traces during the group activity

  20. 5. Experimental validation The supervisory agent of the activity evaluates the behaviour of the team during this activity

  21. 6. Conclusion Our experimentation shows the importance of an observer system in eLearning platform. Its principal vocation is to provide the various actors responsible for this formation (tutors, designer, administrator, etc.) very useful information to control and evaluate a training session.
