  2. Paul’s “wonder” at the Galatians Gal 1:6-7 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

  3. Paul’s “wonder” at the Galatians • Paul “marveled” at their readiness to abandon • Marvel - Archaic astonishment • Their defection had come in three years • Change was substantive, not merely cosmetic • Differing messages cannot be true • Believers must choose

Paul’s uncompromising position Gal 1:8-9 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Paul’s background in Judaism • Paul’s Jewish background prior to becoming a christian was well known • Paul would not have been a likely candidate • He advanced beyond contemporaries • He had zeal for “traditions of his fathers” • Jewish leaders had been confident in him • His faithfulness to traditions was unquestioned
