On March 5, 2009, the CER announced proposed tariff changes effective from May 1, 2009, to September 30, 2009, featuring an average price reduction of 10%. A revenue diversion of €165 million from ESBN and EirGrid, split 80:20, will lead to a €133 million drop in distribution charges and €32 million in demand-related transmission charges. Future tariffs from October 1, 2009, will recoup the revenue changes. Additionally, smart metering initiatives for residential and SME customers are progressing, with ongoing installations and trials.
