  2. Description of Arthropods Arthropods means jointed legs. All arthropods have a skeleton on the outside of their body and jointed legs. Arthropods are in the invertebrate group because it does not have an inside skeleton or bones. Arthropods are divided into four subgroups. They are called classes. So, that means there are four classes of arthropods. The name of the classes are myriapods, crustaceans, insects and arachnids.

  3. Myriapods Description Myriapods have one pair of antennae (in singular antenna) and long cylindrical or flat bodies with many many legs. Example of myriapods are centipede and millipede. They have a lots and lots of legs.

  4. Crustacceans Description Crustacceans have two pairs of antennae while myriapods only have one pair. Example of crustaccean will be lobster and woodlouse.

  5. Arachnids Description Arachnids don’t have antennae like myriapods and crustacceans. But they have four pairs of legs instead. That means it has 8 legs in total. Good example of arachnids will be spider, mites, ticks and scorpions.

  6. Insects Description Everyone knows what is insects and in fact, everyone can compare what is insect and what is animal easily. Insects have one pair of antennae, three pairs of legs and two pair of wings. And if there are three pairs of legs, it means there are 6 legs in total. And all the insects can fly. Warning : Spiders are not insects! Spiders cannot fly!

  7. Key words • Antennae (in singular antenna) : Antenna is used to send and receives signals. Antenna is attached to the insects’ head. This is for the insects to feel things with. • Cylindrical : Something that is cylindrical is in the shape of a cylinder. • Tick : Tick is a small creature (animal) which lives on the bodies of people or animals and uses their blood as food.
