MCHR Innovations Lead to High Test Scores • An Extended School Day – school ends at 4pm Mon-Thurs. • Accelerated Reader Program – Students move up in reading levels by reading books and then taking quizzes. Over one 60-day period, MCHR students took 6,486 quizzes and had an average score of 91.8%. • School Library – Through a $150,000 grant from Library Connections (funded by Peter Flanigan’s Patrons Program), MCHR employs a full-time library teacher and has equipped its library with more than 6,500 books. • Technology Integration – MCHR has an up-to-date computer lab, and each classroom has 1-3 computers. Technology is incorporated into everyday coursework.

  12. MCHR’s Thriving Arts Program • Every student takes part in violin or voice lessons twice a week. • Older students interested in pursuing violin training at MCHR have performed at the Russian Tea Room, the Rainbow Room, and a few have been admitted to a special Juilliard program. • Ballroom dancing is offered for 4th, 5th and 8th graders, who go on to compete in a city-wide contest. • Creative Classrooms provides the school with a professional art instructor who gives weekly lessons.

  13. Jaime Martinez (left) is a MCHR 8th grader using a CSF scholarship. He is a ballroom dancer and violin player and plans to become a lawyer. He told us, “My parents and I wanted to have more opportunities. This would not have been possible without my CSF scholarship.”
