  12. Annual Growth Survey 2013 Member States should give priority to growth-enhancing policies such as education, when consolidating public budgets Raising the performance of education and training systems and overall skill levels, linking the worlds of work and education more closely together.

Opening up education • Joint initiative from DGs EAC and CNECT • Strengthen the integration of digital technologies and contents in formal, non-formal and informal education and training, in order to • ensure the provision of skills needed by the current and future generations of students and workers • increase efficiency of the delivery of education and training in the EU

Opening up education Infrastructure: Improve and update digital infrastructures for education and training, including connectivity Content: Up-scale the creation, use, re-use and sharing of quality digital education contents, including Open Education Resources Teaching and Learning Environments: Modernise learning, teaching and assessment practices through digital technologies and increase equity Challenge for monitoring policy implementation in this area: Current gaps in European statistics, e.g. on OER and use of ICT in VET and HE

  16. Internationalisation of HE • Internationalisation refers broadly to the development of curricula and teaching/learning processes that take account of international influences and of increased links and interdependencies between HEIs in different countries. This includes international mobility but also « internationalisation at home ». • The Communication will: • focus on the worldwide dimension of internationalisation, rather than on intra-EU cooperation and mobility • look into main driving forces and trends • propose priorities for the development of internationalisation at an institutional, national and European level

Internationalisation of HE The increasing importance of internationalisation for countries, HEIs and graduates also call for a solid evidence-base to monitor and underpin policies and programmes in this area. This includes e.g. statistics on worldwide inward and outward mobility of students and staff, joint degrees, online international education.

Education and Training Monitor • Concise compendium: • Evolution of education and training systems across Europe • ET 2020 benchmarks and indicators • Latest policy developments, in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy and its set of Country Specific Recommendations on education and training. • The Education and Training Monitor 2013 will play an important role in delivering messages for the Annual Growth Survey 2014.

Education and Training Monitor • Process: • Compiled and written by DG EAC • Supported by CRELL (JRC Center for Research in Education and Lifelong Learning), Eurostat and Eurydice • Consultation with Member States • European Statistics collected through the ESS is extensively used in the publication
