This workshop report details the Seychelles experience with the Post Enumeration Surveys (PES) during the 2010 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses. It highlights constraints faced, particularly the impracticality of a dual PES system due to a lack of independent agencies and the costliness of the single system funded entirely by the government. Evaluations plan to be conducted three months post-enumeration across all districts, focusing on coverage and content. Strategies for improving future censuses are discussed, emphasizing the need for efficient resource allocation.

CENSUS EVALUATION & POST ENUMERATION SURVEYS Workshop on the 2010 World Programme on Population & Housing Censuses, September 2009
Constraints • PES dual system has not been practicable due to unavailability of independent agencies to carry out the exercise • PES single system costly and demanding on scarce resources availed for the census (last census was 100% government funded)
Re-interviews by Area Supervisors, immediately after enumeration (small scale) • …and subsequent comparison of individual records
Plans for 2010 round • Proper PES envisaged to be carried out 3 months after main enumeration. • Survey to cover all administrative districts • Evaluation to consider both coverage and content • Single system approach foreseen
