Established in 1986, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) represents over 400 colleges dedicated to the success of Hispanic higher education. Led by President Antonio Flores, HACU advocates for the interests of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), which comprise two-thirds of all Hispanic college students. The organization aims to enhance educational opportunities and quality for Hispanic students while collaborating with business and industry. Notable achievements include securing over $1 billion in funding for Latinos in higher education and establishing formal recognition for HSIs.

HACU Mission • To champion Hispanic success in higher education by: • Promoting the development of member colleges and universities • Improving access to and the quality of post-secondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students • Meeting the needs of business, industry and government through the development and sharing of resources, information and expertise

Achievements • 1992- HACU led the effort to convince Congress to formally recognize campuses with high Hispanic enrollment as federally designated HSIs. • 1995- HSIs were granted $12 million from federal resources.
Achievements Cont. • 2011- $104.3 million were appropriated for the HSI undergraduate program • 2012- $175 million are recommended by HACU for the fiscal year.
