  2. point for character of Bobby/ relationship of brother & sister/ conflict between B&M: • ‘--- but his appearance belied a strong determination to have everything his own way.’ • ‘strong determination’ indicates that Bobby is stubborn and won’t always obey Megan.

  3. Conflict between M&B/ starts plot/ links to ending/ theme • ‘I just hope a monster doesn’t get you.’ • Megan scares Bobby by telling him about monsters in stories to get him to do what she wants.

  4. Plot structure/ unexpected ending/ key incident/ theme • ‘They came to a part of the shore that was deserted except for a woman walking her dog.’ • The children are warned that this part of the beach is dangerous for unaccompanied children

  5. Character conflict/ unexpected ending/ M’s character • ‘Is that big girl hitting you?’ she asked him. • The woman is showing concern for Bobby’s safety.
