Elie Wiesel, born in 1928 in Sighet, Transylvania, is a notable Holocaust survivor, author, and humanitarian. Deported to Auschwitz at the age of 15, he endured unimaginable horrors yet emerged to share his story. After moving to France and later to New York in 1955, Wiesel authored his influential WWII autobiography in 1960. He received the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1985 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his work in promoting human rights and fighting indifference to evil. Wiesel's themes of silence, darkness, and the struggle for faith remain deeply impactful.
