Why did the Taliban gunmen open fire on Malala? What happened in 2007, and why is this significant? What are the restrictions on girls and women treated in Pakistan? Does the Taliban tolerate other forms of Islam that differ from them? What did Malala’s father do in 2009, and what did Malala do that same year? According to the chart, how many adolescents don’t go to school? What does Malala feel her role is…and does everyone approve of her role? Is Malala a leader or a follower…why or why not?   3. Malala Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize • At 16, MalalaYousafzai would have become the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, if she had been awarded it Friday. In addition, she would have been the youngest winner ever of a Nobel Prize in any category. • Instead, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded it to the international chemical weapons watchdog that is destroying poison gas stockpiles in Syria -- the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. • Malala apparently feels like the OPCW deserves it. A message went out on a Twitter account representing her to congratulate the OPCW and thank it for its "wonderful work for humanity."

United Nations Special Envoy for Global EducationGordon Brown launched a UN petition in Yousafzai's name, using the slogan "I am Malala" and demanding that all children worldwide be in school by the end of 2015 – a petition which helped lead to the ratification of Pakistan's first Right to Education Bill.
