Outline • Ultra short introduction* • Current status • Work to be done *My assumption is that those attending this meeting are already familiar with the basic design of the HF luminosity system. I would be happy to provide reference material, to those who are not. HF Luminosity
Signals From HF Iron fiber calorimeter. 3 < η < 5 HF • Minimal add’l hardware requirements • Mezzanine board to tap into HF data stream and forward bits to a PC via Ethernet • Autonomous (mini) DAQ system to provide “always on” operation T1 & T2 are elements of TOTEM HF Luminosity
Algorithms • There are two methods designed to extract luminosity information from the HF signals: • “Zero counting” • ET sum HF Luminosity
HF Lumi Upper Level Design “Publishing” and logging the information for each bunch. HLX boards accumulate histograms # HF Luminosity Bucket #
Status • HLX hardware and firmware have been stable for several months • Two HLXes failed recently and were replaced. • HLX spares pool has dwindled to zero. A new run of ten HLXes will start soon. • Online software is functional and well tested. • A Function Manager that allows for autonomous operation of the lumi is now working (thanks to Arno Heister!) HF Luminosity
. . . Status • Earlier this month, there was an apparent interaction between the newly installed DCC2 boards and the HLXes. Subsequent investigation revealed that there is no obvious interaction. The problems with some HLXes, may just have been a coincidental failure of the HLX boards. HF Luminosity
Ongoing & Future Work • As noted, we are working to produce additional HLX spares • We are looking into an after pulsing problem observed last fall during the global run • Other areas of current lumi group effort are mostly decoupled from HF hardware. These include: • Offline data base and lumi access tools • Van der Meer scan to provide absolute normalization HF Luminosity
