Clean Air Minnesota & Project Green Fleet A voluntary partnership of businesses, environmental groups, government agencies, and citizens working together to achieve significant, measurable reductions in air pollution. Outcomes >1200 buses and 70 heavy-duty diesel multi-sector retrofits 2.2 tons per day reductions in first two years More than 140,000 recipients of air quality alerts More than 80 public and private partners committed to voluntary emission-reductions

Not the usual suspects –Not the usual tactics • MN is in attainment, no big stick • Nonprofit driven and administered • Co-chaired by MN Chamber of Commerce and MN Center for Environmental Advocacy • Champions - committed individuals supporting a collaborative effort • Discussion/work focuses on interests not positions

  4. Project Green Fleet - Process Oriented Voluntary Partnership driven Collaborative process Business, government, and community leadership

  5. Project Green Fleet –Strategic • Consolidation; grant writing and administration • Connecting the dots – bringing order to chaos • MN State Strategy w/ MN Pollution Control Agency • Decision-maker recognition • Over-arching strategy for MN • As easy as possible for fleets/owners

  6. Project Green Fleet –Tactics More work for PGF, but partners have diesel fleets and engines and typically little: • Time • Staff • Knowledge • Expertise regarding technology

  7. Project Green Fleet –Tactics Benefits: • Economies of scale • RFP’s for equipment through competitive procurement policies, reading the Code of Federal Regulations as a hobby • Infrastructure enlarged and aware • Outreach/Publicity
