  1. THE NATURE OF LEARNER LANGUAGE

  2. Arranged by : NIKEN LARASATI WENING 2201410009

  3. A. ERRORS AND ERROR ANALYSIS • good reason if concern about error • help learner to learn self correct

  4. ERRORS AND ERRORS ANALYSIS • Identifying errors • Describing errors • Explaining errors • Error Evaluation

  5. B. DEVELOPMENTAL PATTERN • The Early Stages of L2 • Acquisition • The Order of Acquisition • Sequence of Acquisition • Some Implication

  6. C. VARIABILITY IN LEARNER • LANGUAGE • learner language is systematic • it can’t be validated that learner language is systematic, but variability is also systematic • learners also vary the linguistic form they use in accordance with situational context • another important factor that accounts for the systematic nature of variability is the psycholinguistic context • learners manifest considerable variability in their production of an L2

  7. variability in learner language is not just random • some variability is free. Learner do 2 or more forms in free variations • It is possible that free variation constitutes an essential stage in the acquisition of grammatical structures • important to recognize the general sequence of acquisition applies to specific grammatical features • not all of the learners complete their stage

  8. IDENTIFYING ERRORS • compare the learner sentences with native speaker sentences (seem to be correct) • differentiate error and mistakes • check the consistency of learner’s performance

  9. DESCRIBING ERRRORS • classify the errors into types • classify in the grammatical way • omission, misinformation, disordering • classification helps us to diagnose learner’s learning problem

  10. EXPLAINING ERRORS • Generally, the learner doing same pattern of errors • This systematicity suggests the learner has constructed the rule • errors have different sources • Learners are doing omission, overgeneralization and transfer errors

  11. ERROR EVALUATION • some errors known as global and local errors • global errors >> violate the overall structure of a sentence • local errors >> affect only a single constituent in the sentence

  12. The early stage >> - undergo a silent period - propositional simplification - Acquisition order - sequence of acquisition

  13. The order of acquisition>> - researcher choose a grammatical structure - identify how accurately each feature is used - accuracy order in their research

  14. 3. Sequence of Acquisition>> - Acquisition of a particular grammatical structure must be seen as a process involving transitional construction

  15. 4. Some implication>> - discovery common pattern is the finding of SLA
