  2. INTRODUCTION Waterheatersareadailynecessityandwithoutpropermaintenance,youmayfaceseveralissues. Installinganewwaterheaterisalsoacostlyinvestment.Herewewillshareafewbasictroubleshootingideasthatcanhelpyousavesomemoneyfrombuyinganewsystemorcallingaservicemanforrepairing.However,itshouldbekeptinmindthatrepairingagaswaterheatershouldbedonewithcautionastheycanexplode. Makesuretoturnoffthegasbeforetakinganyattempttorepair!

NOHOTWATER Youmayfacetheproblemthatyourgaswaterheaterisnotproducinganyhotwater.Firstly,wesuggestyoucheckthepilotlightifitison.Also,makesurethatthegasvalveisproperlyfunctioning.Thegasvalveprovidesgastothemainburnerandthepilotlight.Thegasvalvewillshutoffthegassupplyifthepilotisnotlitwhichwillhindertheproductionofhotwater.Incasethegasvalveisnotoperating, replacingitwillbetheonlyoption.

  4. WATERTOOHOT Sometimeswatergetsheatedquicklyandthemostlikelyreasonforthisisthethermostat.Athermostatispartofthegasvalveandhelpstoadjustthetemperatureofthewater. Unfortunately,athermostatcannotberepairedifnotworking.Youwillneedtoreplacethethermostat withtheentiregasvalve.

BLACKORRUSTYWATER Blackorrustycoloredwateristhecauseofdissolvedanode.Theanoderodisanimportantpartofyourwaterheater.Itconsistsofmetalwhichoxidizesinplaceofthesteelinyourtank.Thusithelpstopreventanyleakinthetank.Whenthemetalgetsdissolved,thewaterturnsblackorrustyasthetankstartstorust.Tryreplacingtheanoderodwithanewonetosolvetheissue.Theusuallifeofananoderod isabout5years.

  6. PRESSURERELIEFVALVELEAKING Thepressurereliefvalveusuallydoesn'tleakmuch. However,ifthereisanyleakthenitmaybeduetoeitherhighpressureinthetankoradefectivevalvewhichventswater.Also,checkforanysedimentstohave settledinthevalve.Ifthevalveiswillstopfunctioning.Checkthe notseatedproperly,itfollowingissuesandif thevalvecontinuestoleakthenyoumayhavetoreplace itwithanewone.Replacingthevalveis howevernot toocostlyandcanbedoneinanhour.

HOTWATERTANKLEAKING Leakinghotwatertankcansometimesturnouttobeabigproblem.Leakscanbefoundin4possiblespots,thewaterlines,thepressurereliefvalve,thedrainvalve,andthetankitself.Leaksnearthebottomofthetankaregenerallyduetothedrainvalveswhileleaksatthetopoccurfromthepressurereliefvalve. A waterlineleakmaybeduetotoomuchpressureofthecoldwatersupplyandhotwateroutletline. Condensationatthetopofthewaterheatercanbeanothercauseofleaking.
