  2. What is Evernote? Simply stated, Evernote is a web service and software application that can be used to help us collect data and evidence for use in the new Educator Evaluation system. It allows users to bookmark, record voice messages, take text and voice notes, upload pictures and all kinds of files (like PDF’s, Docs, etc.) essentially documenting all your data and keeping all your resources in one place that you can access from anywhere through their software, through the web, or through your preferred device. It’s like your giant binder of information, all stored neatly and searchable from wherever you are.

  3. Why use Evernote? • Easily contain all your information in one central place. • Accessible from anywhere, and immediately syncs all information across devices no matter how you input it. • Lesson plans, class notes, schedules, assignments, to do lists, research and photos all easily added to your Evernote account. • Users are allowed to share content via email or other popular social media. • Evernote for Education website and blog where you can learn about how teachers and students are using this tool to stay organized. • Evernote provides web clippers for Chrome, Safari and Firefox, allowing users to clip any webpage they want. • Save bookmarks and annotate webpages using Evernote. Teachers can add screenshots to help kick start their memory when looking for useful websites. • So many more reasons! Google Evernote for Teachers to find information about how other teachers and students are using Evernote.

  4. Where and how can I access Evernote? Anywhere!! Evernote is available as a free download for your computer, you can access it through the evernote.com website, or download their app for use on any of your devices. To get started, simply visit www.evernote.com and click “Sign Up” on the top right of the page. Follow the directions for signing up and choosing a username and password. You can immediately start collecting information and getting set up with Evernote! No matter how you access Evernote, use your username and password, and all your information will be available to you!

  5. What are they talking about? Evernote uses specific terms that are helpful to understand before you get started. Note - a single item stored in Evernote Notebook - acts like a folder or place to store notes Stack - a group of notebooks Tag - description of a note Clip - grabbing content from another source such as a website Synchronization (Sync) - Evernote update on the web, which allows you to access it from anywhere. Attributes - information about your notes such as date created etc.

  6. Ok, now I know what it is… Show me 3 things I can do with it. 2. Save Files 3. Take Pictures 1. Take Notes

  7. Take Notes. Open Evernote and log in Step 1: Click “new note.” Step 2: Click in the title box and add a title for your note. Step 3: Click in the body of the message and start typing. Use simple text notes to take notes at meetings, keep track of your goals, make notes to yourself so you don’t forget, whatever you would write on a piece of paper you can track in notes.

  8. Save Files (documents or images) Open Evernote and log in Step 1: Click “new note.” Step 2: Click in the title box and add a title for your note. Step 3: Drag and drop the file you chose on your computer into the body of the note. Include any kind of file you may have. Word documents, PDF’s, images of notes from your whiteboard or Bulletin boards. Once included in your Evernote account, all your documents will be available wherever you are.

  9. Images are Searchable Open Evernote and log in Step 1: Click “new note.” Step 2: Click in the title box and add a title for your note. Step 3: Drag and drop the file you chose on your computer into the body of the note. This is my favorite feature of Evernote. You can take a picture with your digital camera or your smartphone, upload it to Evernote from the app or from your computer (just like a file) and then Evernote will index it and make any text visible in the image searchable. It does take 24-48 hours for the image to be indexed and searchable, but it’s an amazing feature, especially for images of whiteboards or bulletin boards. This is a great way to collect evidence of student growth, take a picture of a worksheet or test, and be able to save that evidence to demonstrate that you are meeting your SMART goals.
