  2. Profile • This is how you let other people know who you are. Make sure you include a photo and fill out your bio giving some information • about what you are • interested in.

  3. Jump In • Most people will follow you based on your bio and what you have tweeted about recently. Write about a great lesson you taught; a website you like;a great article you read.

  4. Piggyback • Ask someone who has a lot of followers to put in a good work for you, then, be sure to follow back, people who follow you.

  5. Reply • Engage with people directly by replying (@ before their username) If you can help or offer advice of your own then do so where you can.

  6. Follow People • Twitter is about making connections. Start by following somebody you know and look at who they follow. Begin by following some of the people they follow. Remember you can always unfollow people later.

  7. Hashtags • Add hashtags to your tweets. Your tweets will then be seen by anyone who searches for #science (not just the people following you).

  8. Persevere • When you first start using Twitter, it can be very quiet. Keep following the tips outlined today and you will soon have plenty of new friends to • talk to!
