  5. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals • DE allows high school students to meet the requirements for HS graduation while simultaneously earning college credit • DE agreements are partnerships between secondary (HS) and postsecondary entities (PVCC)

Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals Student Eligibility • DE is typically restricted to HS juniors and seniors • College-ready freshman and sophomore students are managed on a case-by-case basis (college President’s approval required). • Must demonstrate readiness for college by meeting admissions criteria and all course prerequisites • Documentation of parental permission VCCS Policy: 6.0.1.1 Dual Enrollment Student Admissions

  7. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals DE Courses Equivalent to PVCC courses taught on campus in: • Course rigor • Learning objectives • Textbooks • Instructor qualifications • Course prerequisites • Follow the high school calendar • May have additional admissions requirements

  8. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals DE Courses cont. • Transfer Courses: history, English, math, government, science, etc. • Career and Technical Education (CTE): CADD, culinary arts, information technology, etc. • designed to transfer to other colleges and universities. • not designed as such.

  9. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals Deadlines: • Drop Deadline: dropping before this point has no effect on a student's permanent record. (up to 15% of the course) • Withdrawal Deadline: dropping between the drop deadline and withdraw deadline with result in a W on a your permanent record. (from 15% to 60% of the course) DROP = Disappear Withdraw = Won’t

  10. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals • Permanent College Record Performing poorly in DE classes could affect your eligibility for: • Transfer: Guaranteed Admissions Agreements (GAA) • Financial Aid Best advice: Take your DE classes seriously and do well!

  11. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals Credit earned in DE transfer courses will typically transfer to other colleges and universities, particularly those in Virginia. Dual Enrollment (DE) Fundamentals • House Bill 1184 – PVCC Early College Pathways General Assembly state legislation called for each community college to establish pathways with each school division they serve to allow students the opportunity to earn an Associate degree or General Education Certificate concurrently with a high school diploma (can combine DE, dual-credit, and AP).

  15. DE Student Responsibilities Academic Rigor • Commit yourself (grades reflected in college transcripts) • College-level workload/College Class = College Credit • Regularly check email, SIS and Canvas

DE Student Responsibilities In order to receive transfer credit for DE coursework at another college or university, you must request a PVCC transcript be sent to that institution. • FREE free of charge • MyPVCC • OR - submit a transcript request form • by faxing, mailing or emailing a transcript request form to jperutelli@pvcc.edu.
