  3. II. Why Honor Christ? 1. The Father honors Him, Jn.5:23a “that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father” (23a) • Just as: to the same extent, in the same manner • Ph.2:10 = Is.45:23 • To worship a creature is idolatry • Conclusion: Jesus is not a creature

  4. 2. To withhold honor from Christ is to dishonor the Father, Jn.5:23b • “He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him” (23b) • Fathers are blessed through sons • Abraham – Isaac • Saul – not Jonathan • Job

  5. 3. He is our great God and Savior, Tit.2:13 • “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ”

  6. 4. He is our Creator, Hb.1:2 • Inventions bring honor to inventors • “Bell South” • “Ford” • Light bulb • What about creation? Hb.3:4

  9. III. We Cannot Honor Him By: • Careless living, Mt.27:…9. 2 Sm.12 • Lip service, Mk.7:6. 2 Jn.9. Nu.22 • Vain worship, Mk.7:7. 1 Sm.2:29-30 • Elaborate church buildings. Mk.14:58 • Popular members, Lk.9:46. Ac.4:13 • Hugh numbers, Ac.2; Col.1:23

  10. IV. How To Honor Christ • Obey Him as Lord, Lk.19:28-32 • Full obedience; strange orders • Costly obedience; own clothes • Voluntary obedience. Hb.5:7-9 • Worship Him as God, Lk.19:36 • Serve Him as King, Lk.19:38(Ps.118) • Defend Him as Messiah, Lk.19:39-40
