Exploring Solar Energy: Design and Analysis of High-Concentrating Collectors

This poster presents an in-depth analysis of solar energy as a renewable resource, focusing on the principles of high-concentrating solar collectors. It explores the intensity variation across the solar disc, known as limb darkening, and examines the significant energy from circumsolar radiation. Figures illustrating radiance distribution, supported by results from research (Bendt and Rabl, SERI Report, 1980), will be included. Designed for engaging discussions, the poster emphasizes clear presentation of results through graphs, tables, and experimental setups.

Considering the energy coming from the direction of the sun, two factors must be considered when using highly concentrating collectors • there is an intensity variation across the disc of the sun (limb darkening) • the apparent radiation coming from just a few degrees away from the sun’s disc (circumsolar radiation) may have a significant energy content. Figure Radiance distribution of a "standard" solar scan showing both solar disc and circumsolar radiation (Bendt and Rabl, SERI Report, 1980). Notes for the design of your poster The posters should serve as a basis for discussion and are an addition to your presentations. The main focus of the posters should be on your results. Therefore the posters should include clear descriptions of your results (e.g. graphs, tables) as well as descriptions of important working tools e.g. schemes of experimental set-up, flow charts.
