  3. Room One: Entering the Web Mine to learn about keywords Key words are the main words in a topic that are used to search the web. A search engine or database will list all items or web sites that contain those key words with links to those items. The number of web sites or material found are called “hits”. For example, if you wanted to search for the price of a new pair of Nike athletic shoes you would use the key words: Price of Nike shoes

The two types of searches we will be using will be: • a general Internet search using a search engine • such as or 2. a virtual library such as Search engine-a site on the World Wide Web that locates key words in other sites. It will show you every site containing each key word and many times will produce millions of “hits” or web sites. Virtual library or database- a collection of data organized especially for rapid search and retrieval. It is usually limited to academic material and will produce fewer “hits” than a search engine.
