  2. Founding of San Diego de Alcala • Founded on July 16 1769 by Father Serra • Named after saint Alcala • Located at San Diego coastal region where the Kumeyaay Tried lived.

  3. Location of San Diego de Alcala • San Diego de Alcala was located at the coastal region • It was the mother of all Alta California missions

  4. Design / layout They had court yards , churches , workshops, cemeteries , fountains , Store rooms, gardens , bed rooms, and also buildings made of adobe.

  5. Mission life today The church bells ring every hour .The royal road is still used today .Streets, schools, parks, and even a mountain peak are named for Frey Serra .They all worked so hard and sacrificed there selves so much. • Stands as a memorial to Spanish and kumeyaay Indians. Used for a full service churches and museums .The missions were restored. The missions attract tourist .It is known as a miner Fisilica. They open at several times. Today the mission is still an active parish serving the business for san Diego .

Mission life Kids played hide and seek and tag .They were insructed in the Catholic faith and taught spanish but at the relatively young age they began to participate in the work of the mission .The girls helped their moms with cooking, cleaning, and making cloths while the boys had to work in the fields .At the missions the boys were taught to sing in the early days.

  7. Take a stand • The mission system helped stop the war of the Russians • It helped raise money for schools, churches, workshops, • The mission system started in 1769-1834 • It helped all of the missions survive • It helped people survive
