  1. Handling Information? What is

  2. What is handling information? Information handling involves gathering, storing, manipulating, interrogating and using information. Being able to handle information is a very important ‘real- life’ skill.

  3. Handling information We can solve a problem by collecting, organising, representing, extracting and interpreting data in tables, graphs and charts.

  4. We can use a database to handle information. What is a database A database is an ordered collection of information which allows searching for specific information and enables individual items to be added and amended. An example of a database is an address book : this contains names, addresses and telephone numbers, normally arranged in alphabetical groups.

  5. Computers can help to handle information very quickly. A computer database might contain exactly the same information - but would allow the user to store, retrieve, organise and compare information with far greater speed and efficiency. Items in a computer database can be accessed in a systematic way by asking questions.

  6. What is a database? More definitions :- A collection of information organised in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. You can think of a database as an electronic filing system. A large amount of data stored in a well-organized manner. A collection of records or files of information grouped together.

  7. Information Workshop 2000is an example of an information handling program. Here is an example of a record from a database containing census information.
